Event stage decor is an important piece of the planning puzzle. Decor will add to the general ‘feel’ of the event and not only add interest, but also add an element of branding. Decor provides the ‘wow’ factor for participants to walk away with. Take a look at some of the decor elements used at recent events, from simple to more technical…

Paper Lanterns
Paper lanterns are a simple and inexpensive way to add color to an otherwise bland environment. Lanterns may be hung with something as easy as a zip tie and, because they don’t weigh much, can be hung from virtually any structure, including a tent! Choosing one or two colors would be best for branding purposes. The lanterns may also be lit up if desired!
-
Fabrics
Fabrics can be used to provide branded colors to all kinds of surfaces, such as a tent ceiling! Fabrics can vary in cost, texture, and durability. Make sure the fabric that you choose is rugged enough to withstand the environment where it will be located!
-
Orbs
Hanging orbs provide a step up from simple lanterns but act similarly in terms of function. They provide an excellent receptacle for lights and really command the eye’s attention! The hanging hardware has to be able to accommodate the orb’s weight being more than just simple paper lanterns.

Topiary
Many stage sets bring in natural elements to create the event’s story. Florists can be helpful to provide arrangements for strategic placement on stage, such as in front of a podium. Or, you could visit a local garden shop or nursery for seasonal plants and even add trees for added height on stage! Keep in mind the environment that these plants will be in and plan your pick-up time accordingly. Live plants will have to be maintained until show time!

Coroplast Displays
Coroplast is a corrugated plastic material that can be cut and shaped. It’s lighter than plywood but stronger than paper or cardboard. This material can easily be lit up. While it is possible to punch individual pixels through the plastic, it can also be backlit. For instance, we used this material to provide some decor for a roaring twenties themed display on stage with backlighting.

Box Structures and Truss
Box structures and truss can be utilized onstage as decor in a wide variety of ways. Truss can be used as a backbone for printed truss stretch shapes, which allows for branded logos and signage to be displayed. Something as simple as a box frame with colored plastic or paper inserts can also make an appealing and color branded stage prop.

Wooden Decor
Wood can be cut in virtually any shape. Creating a wooden logo or letters can make a big impact on visibility. Wooden structures are durable, and usually self-standing. The downside is that these decor pieces can be large, heavy, and difficult to store.

Lights
Stage lighting is an ever-evolving class of decor. Fixtures are becoming increasingly energy efficient, and are taking on multiple functions now more than ever before! They’re no longer just providing light. Creative uses for lighting are infinite. The color spectrums have become significantly broader and more versatile to work with. Some stage lighting fixtures even come with built-in textures to project onto the lit surface. In the picture from the above video, we’ve used the Astera Titan Tubes to create an interesting light design beside the stage.

Digital Totems
Digital is the way of today’s world… While these digital totems come at a higher price to grace the stage, the benefits are well worth it! The digital totems can provide motion graphics for exceptional branding! The totems can be linked together to create jumping graphics. They can be hung, or made to stand.

LED Wall
The most impressive backdrop for a stage comes in the form of an LED wall. This wall has the ability to engage viewers to the fullest while displaying high definition motion graphics across a large platform. The LED wall can take on any number of formations. In the video above, the LED wall was made to have a large center square with two thin rectangular boards on the sides.
