Outdoor Event Lighting
Worcester | 2023
Have you ever looked up and noticed some never-ending beams of light coming from spotlights that suggest a big event happening somewhere? The lights instill that wonder of what’s going on! But, event planners, you don’t need ultra bright spotlights to make a big impression though! Outdoor event lighting can be done in other creative ways…
Some examples of creative outdoor event lighting include:
- Illuminating a school with their pride colors to celebrate graduation
- Flooding a hospital building facade with color for their “Light-It-Up-Blue” event to draw attention to autism awareness
- Lighting up city firehouses to highlight National Fallen Firefighters Day
- Showcasing the iconic “Smiley Face” in moving GOBOs outside of the building hosting the Harvey Ball annual gala
- Alternating multi-colors to mimic a logo upon entering the building for an event
Things to consider when deciding on outdoor event lighting:
- Is the venue is a trafficked location?
- What are your goals? Do they include creating awareness for something?
- How much money may be allowed for outdoor lighting?
- Does your event or organization have branded colors?
- Can the lights be located in a place that don’t disturb entryways or traffic?
Lighting up the outside of an event venue can definitely make a big impact on branding efforts as well as general interest and wow-factor! Outdoor event lighting can be used to highlight a special area of the venue or create a dramatic mood effect! By lighting up only the inside of the venue would be like lighting up only half of the event! Think of lighting like the wrapping on a present – it’s part of the presentation of the gift (event)! An unwrapped gift doesn’t make the same impression as one that has been packaged properly!
Lighting can be as simple as some weatherproof, battery-powered up-lights, or more complicated such as moving lights with GOBOs. Whatever lighting options you may choose, it will be well worth it!
